Themes

I remember something that a famous writer said in a short book about writing – he said that it wasn’t necessary to have a theme in your writing. Since he mainly writes fiction, I think his advice applies more to that genre than nonfiction, but no matter, I have several themes that pop up in my writing and blogging.

Running – I like it, it likes me, and, as you may have heard, endorphins (runner’s high) ARE addictive.

Photography – I miss my old Nikon (35mm film) cameras, but digital is OK and fun.

Writing – Been doing it since I was a kid, and I enjoy it immensely.

Religious – For me, Christ is the true path, but I let others decide for themselves.

People – I’d call this a “main” theme and the focus of my writings.

Life – I’d call this a second “main” theme and reinforced by “people”.

Self-improvement – Who needs to read boring stuff about that topic, but on second thought?

Bridges – It’s an obvious life metaphor for transitions in life, but two of my favorite cities have wonderful bridges, Sydney, Australia and Portland, Oregon (where I live).

Birds – In my opinion, birds are one of the ultimate self-sufficient creatures and glorious to behold.

Travel – A minor theme, but for me travel is an activity that provides insights into our world and how others live – it expands our horizons.
